Yes! Many issues experienced with a new floorcovering relate to the floor it is laid over, so it is very important that the subfloor is correctly checked to ensure it meets the criteria needed for a thin format floating floor such as Malmo™ Rigid. The subfloor must be solid, sound, dry, and appropriately flat and level – all in accordance with the information given in the Malmo™ installation instructions.
Yes, Malmo™ Rigid must have a minimum 6mm clear expansion gap at all its perimeter edges and around any fixed object within the floor area.
Yes, floating floors with movement characteristics (eg Malmo™ Rigid) must be separated from the floor in adjoining rooms. This is to ensure that the flooring in one room can expand and contract in isolation from an adjoining room, where the floorcovering may move at a different rate depending on the room use, varying heating cycles, etc.
Yes, Malmo™ is suitable for bathrooms as it is R10 slip resistant and the PVC construction provides a completely waterproof core.
No, Malmo™ Rigid is not suitable for wet rooms and/or where there is continual direct wetting onto the floor. A fully joint sealed (ie ceramic grouted) product, or unjointed, continual sheet type floorcovering must be used for walk-in showers and wet rooms.
No, Malmo™ Rigid is not suitable (or guaranteed) for conservatory use due to the extremes of temperature that can occur during summer months which may affect the stability of the product. For conservatory use we recommend our Malmo™ stickdown vinyl product.
No, it is industry best practice not to install kitchen units, islands, and very heavy appliances or furniture onto a floating floor, as the flooring must be able to able to expand and contract without being restricted by the weight of heavy kitchen units. The edges of the flooring can be hidden and finished just beneath unit plinths and end panels with the required expansion space beyond them.
Yes, Malmo™ is suitable for use over underfloor heating as long as it is a water piped UFH system, encased within in a concrete base. Malmo™ Rigid is not suitable (or guaranteed) for use over electric matting UFH systems, or systems where the heating elements or pipes are exposed at the surface of the sub floor.
You should use the recommended Bona hard surface cleaner which is specially designed for vinyl products. It is non-aggressive and quickly evaporates, and is available separately or as a spray mop set which is incredibly quick and easy to use.
No, LVT based floorcoverings are temperature sensitive and steam has a high temperature when it makes contact with the floor – this can induce movement and joint issues. We recommend using the recommended Bona cleaning products to clean your Malmo™ floor, which do not harm it in any way.
Unfortunately scratches do occur on all hard floors, but they can be blended in on a Malmo™ floor using a scratch repair kit. There is a wide selection of these available, but we particularly recommend the Dr Schutz scratch repair kit for vinyl floors.
It can if the floor surface is heated excessively, which often occurs when the flooring is immediately behind large glass doors. To avoid excessive movement issues behind glass doors, you should protect the floor through the use of blinds or curtains during periods of high summer temperatures.
Neither Malmo™ rigid nor Malmo™ stickdown LVT does not contain any phthalate chemicals or SVHC`s (substances of very high concern) and the products are in accordance with required standards and regulations.
